As education transforms so does Beth’s approach to support faculty in designing lessons the way that their students’ learn regardless of modality. However, her expertise extends beyond the classroom to campus-wide projects such as training for the Higher Learning Commission, the eLearning Gold Star Program, Apps based on Blooms as well as Learning Spaces. She remains current in her field by teaching for the Education Studies Department as well as being certified by the Chair Academy for Leadership as well as a Quality Matter Peer Reviewer and Instructor for online and hybrid training. Additional K-12 certifications have included English, History, Spanish, English as a Second Language and Bilingual Education. Finally, Beth has supported many grant initiatives such as Title III with the Math, Reading and English Department as well as the TL3C Education Studies. Her most memorable accomplishments were developing an English as a Second Language Program that ranked 2nd in the state of Arizona as well as being inducted into UC Irvine’s Hall of Fame for her running accomplishments.

A graduate of Yale College (BA) and the University of Michigan’s Anthropology Department (MA) and Interdepartmental Doctoral Program in Anthropology and History (PhD), she researches and teaches about culture and political economy in the Arab world. She is the author of Transforming Damascus: Space and Modernity in an Islamic City (IB Tauris, 2008) and Middle Eastern Humanities: An Introduction to Middle Eastern Cultures (Kendall Hunt, 2010) and co-editor of Media Evolution on the Eve of the Arab Spring (Palgrave MacMillan 2014) as well as articles on gender, culture, and power in the Ottoman and contemporary Middle East that have appeared in the Journal of Islamic Studies, Comparative Studies in South Asia, Africa, and the Middle East, Critical Studies of the Middle East, Middle East Policy, Al-Jazeera English, Al-Jazeera America and the Huffington Post.
