I'm demonstrating how working together in innovative ways and breaking down traditional boundaries can help us create new value in the world in a sustainable way. I've never been very good at 'fitting' in to boxes. In my own education, for example, I've always worked across a range of sectors with my undergraduate work in Molecular Biology and my Masters Degree in Political Science being completed at Canterbury University in New Zealand, followed by studying Political Philosophy at Oriel College, Oxford University in England and eventually taking my PhD in Political Philosophy from the Australian National University in Canberra, Australia. Throughout this period I was active in the consulting field and undertook a range of short-term projects for government and non-government clients across the Asia-Pacific region, mainly in the international development sector. Then, after working in universities in Australia and New Zealand for a few years, I took up the post as Foundation Director of the Centre for Indigenous Governance and Development at Massey University, New Zealand in 2005. Throughout this period I continued to provide professional advice for a range of agencies including the Australian and New Zealand governments, the United Nations Development Program, the World Bank and other groups across the Asia-Pacific region. Since leaving the university sector I have focused on growing my commercial interests through the creation of a range of companies. In addition to this I continue to write, publish and speak on a range of topics. So far I've published one book and over 20 articles and book chapters. This includes work on the emergence of the new economy, entrepreneurship, economic development, good governance, health systems and environmental management. In 2013 my next book ‘The First Maori Renaissance’ will come out through Penguin.
